New Podcast Re-Examines the Murder of Michael Jordans Father, Questions the Conviction of Daniel Green

Follow the Truth is the first true crime podcast from WRAL Studios & Capitol Broadcasting Company

On July 23, 1993, Michael Jordans father, James, was murdered in Lumberton, North Carolina. For 28 years, the case has been shrouded in mystery with unanswered questions about what really happened. Follow the Truth: The Daniel Green Story is a deeply personal journey that re-examines Greens conviction, reveals new evidence, and explores the role of celebrity in the carriage of justice.

Green was convicted of felony murder based almost exclusively on the testimony of co-defendant Larry Demery, who took a plea deal in exchange for identifying Green as the triggerman. Both men are currently serving life sentences. Green has maintained his innocence in the killing for 28 years.

The podcast is produced by WRAL Studios with its parent Capitol Broadcasting Company, which co-produced the 2021 Amazon / IMDb TV Original Docu-series Moment of Truth about the Jordan case.

Shelly Leslie, head of streaming and podcasting for the Company serves as Executive Producer on both projects. The podcast is the rest of the story. The intimacy of audio allows us to take listeners deeply into the lives of all the central characters in this real life tragedy, most importantly James Jordan and Daniel Green. Mr. Jordan was more than a celebritys father. He was a person with a complex life. And Mr. Green is more than a man convicted of murder.

The podcast is exhaustively researched by true crime investigative reporter and author Amanda Lamb, with compelling present day reporting, interviews with people who have never spoken publicly on the case, and exclusive archival reporting from WRAL journalists dating back to 1993. Lamb writes a very personal narrative based on years of correspondence with Green from prison, through letters, phone calls and in-person interviews.

My goal in this case, or any case I cover, is to seek the truth, based on facts and evidence, says Lamb. Well take people back to the scene of the crime, put them in the interrogation room, in the trial, in the echoing walls of a prison, and in the living room at home with Daniels mother and sister. The listener is the jury now, only this time they'll have all the evidence, and they can decide who's telling the truth.

Now, more than at any other time in our history, Americans are questioning the role of the courts and policing in our society and their ability to carry out correct justice. Follow The Truth could not be better timed to add to this larger conversation. The series includes themes of law enforcement corruption, racism, and social injustice in rural Robeson County, North Carolina a place where a Confederate monument still stands guard in front of the county courthouse and a Native American political candidate was murdered.

The show brings fans of true crime, society & culture, sports and celebrity together. Episodes one and two release on July 22, with weekly episodes on Thursdays through Sept 16.
