DStv improves functionality with increased EPG data services --

EBS, an international provider of Electronic Program Guide (EPG) data for platforms and channels, is providing increased services to pay TV platform DStv. These services entail proofreading, editing and scheduling of EPG data for a number of Portuguese channels including: DStv Kids; DStv1; DStv Pipoca; Cinemundo; Trace Toca; TIM; CMTV; So Novelas and TLN broadcast in countries across Africa as well as Dutch channel BVN in South Africa.
Keith Bedford, managing director at EBS says, With so many channels fighting for audience share the way that the content is written and presented is vital. The additional technical functionality that enables services such as record and series link means that the EPG has become a vital tool for both platforms and channels worldwide.
Each channel on the DStv platform is responsible for providing the relevant EPG data to enable their listings on the EPG. This is a major driver for content discovery, which is why it is important that programming information is accurate and up to date. When data is missing or inadequate, viewers can t get the information they need about shows. This means that valuable sales tools for a channel, such as recorded content and series linking, are compromised.
To address this issue, EBS collects the data for each channel, which is received in a variety of formats, and adds it to EBS flagship, in-house scheduling application Pawa. It is then checked to ensure all required information is present and in line with DStv s specific requirements before being delivered in the format and frequency required, providing consistency and ease of workflow.
