BT enhances resilience of its satellite network in Brazil Customers will benefit from improved service through a custom made solution based on local research

BT announced today it has further improved its satellite network resilience in Brazil by investing in a new teleport to provide site backup in situations where transmission at the main teleport might deteriorate due to adverse meteorological conditions. The new teleport has been established in Jaguari na, 30 km from BT's main teleport site in Hortol ndia.

Located at the Flex Business Park, the new site was chosen based on a detailed study of the region's micro-climate and topographic conditions to minimize the odds of both sites being affected by weather at the same time. The business park hosts a number of Brazilian and multinational companies and meets the best operations and safety standards.

In the event of link degradation at the primary site in Hortol ndia, data traffic will automatically switch over to the secondary site in Jaguari na, thus minimising data loss and ensuring continuity of service. The two sites are connected via a fully duplicated fibre-optic connection.

The system runs on teleport hub software developed to BT's specifications. It is a result of studies conducted jointly by BT's Latin American teams with Ku band signal propagation experts for system optimisation.

BT's S o Paulo teleport in Hortol ndia mainly carries traffic for corporate customers over VSAT links. BT today connects over 40,000 sites across the region for customers ranging from government agencies to multinational companies from a variety of industry sectors.
