The winners of the SVG Europe Sports TV Awards 2020, sponsored by Canon, will be announced during an as live' online awards ceremony at 5pm (UK time) on Wednesday 27 May. Hosted by sports broadcaster and presenter Abi Stephens, the ceremony will premiere on the SVG Europe Youtube channel, SVG Europe Facebook page, and the SVG Europe Sports TV Awards website

The SVG Europe Sports TV Awards were scheduled to take place at Lord's Cricket Ground on 27 May. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, however, the awards cannot be bestowed in person at this time.

The Sports TV Awards trophies themselves will then be handed over in person at a future physical SVG Europe event.

After receiving nominations from all across Europe, covering many different sports and representing sport and media organisations big and small, the judges chose 23 entries across five categories that they felt had helped to push sports television forward within the 2019 calendar year.

Awards will be presented for Achievements in Production, OTT Experience, Sustainability and Diversity.

Chair of the judges and SVG Europe editorial director Fergal Ringrose, said: We were overwhelmed by the quality and breadth of the submissions for the Sports TV Awards 2020 with entries arriving from many different countries, covering some of the biggest events, but also some unique and very interesting smaller ones.

The level of innovation and ingenuity demonstrated by the entries illustrates how exciting and forward-thinking the sports television industry in Europe continues to be.

As judges, we have looked to reward and recognise production and broadcasting excellence but also those projects that have led by example, experimented, taken risks and achieved results that can contribute to the forward momentum and success of the industry as a whole.

The selection process was tricky but I think we've produced a great shortlist. I would like to congratulate every single one of the companies that have made it through to the final stages of the Sports TV Awards 2020, and a sincere thanks to Canon from the entire SVG Europe team for sponsoring this year's Awards.

During the submission process, it became clear to the judges that the entries for Outstanding Production Achievement Award could be logically divided into two categories - overall production excellence' and specific production innovation'. As such, two shortlists have been announced within this category and two awards will be given.

The SVG Europe Sports TV Awards 2020 recognise and honour the outstanding companies, teams and individuals that pushed sports broadcasting and production forward within the 2019 calendar year. The judges look to reward people, organisations and projects, big or small, that have led by example, experimented, taken risks and achieved results that can contribute to the continuing forward momentum and success of the industry as a whole.
