Metrocentre Gateshead has announced that Sky has chosen the retail and leisure destination as the location for one of its first ever bricks and mortar retail shops across the UK.
The new retail concept, which will open its doors on 19th April, brings together Sky Mobile, Sky Broadband and Sky TV, and offers potential customers the opportunity to fully sample the Sky Q experience.
Created with customers' needs in mind, the Sky shop will be separated into designated themed spaces, allowing customers to access advisors easily and safely across the store.
The shop will have a dedicated Customer Hub' encouraging new customers to speak to advisors about the latest Sky innovations whilst existing customers will be able to speak to advisors and receive advice around their current products.
All Sky shops will operate in line with the Government's Covid-19 safety measures, including strict social distancing, mandatory facemasks, and hand sanitiser available across the shop.
A dedicated Access All Areas Stage' will host various interactive experiences for customers, creating moments that entertain and surprise, and will put customers at the centre of Sky's extraordinary entertainment content.
Matthew Price, Retail Director, Sky UK commented:
We are delighted to be opening a new Sky Shop in Gateshead which will allow Sky to showcase the amazing benefits it has to offer new and existing customers. Metrocentre really stood out to us to open a new shop and we're pleased to be able to offer a safe environment in which people can shop for the latest innovative technology from Sky. We look forward to opening our doors and sharing the full experience with customers.
The Sky shop is located on the edge of Town Square, adjacent to House of Fraser and opposite the new Tag Heuer boutique store which is expected to open in the summer.
Ben Cox of Sovereign Centros, Senior Asset Manager for Metrocentre said:
The retail landscape is constantly evolving and we are delighted that Sky has chosen Metrocentre as one of the first locations for their new Sky Shop concept. The innovative experiential format is expected to be a hit with our shoppers and will be an exciting addition to the centre.

About Sky
Sky is Europe's leading media and entertainment company and is proud to be part of the Comcast group. Across six countries, we connect our 24 million customers to the best entertainment, sports, news, arts and to our own award-winning original content.
Our technology, including the market leading Sky Q, connects people to everything they love - with entertainment from Sky TV, Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and BBC iPlayer and apps like Spotify, YouTube, BBC Sounds, Highbrow, Fiit, and more, in one place, easy. Our streaming service, NOW TV, brings viewers all the enjoyment of Sky with the flexibility of a contract-free service.
Building on the success of Sky Originals like Chernobyl, Bulletproof and Brassic, we are doubling our investment in original content by 2024 through Sky Studios. Sky News provides impartial and trustworthy journalism for free, while Sky Arts, the UK's only dedicated free-to-air arts channel, makes the arts accessible for everyone. Our new TV and movie studio, Sky Studios Elstree, is expected to create over 2,000 new jobs and generate an additional £3 billion of production investment in the UK over the first five years alone.
We believe that we can be a force for good in the communities in which we operate. We're committed to being Europe's first net zero carbon entertainment company by 2030 and we're proud to be a Principal Partner and Media Partner of COP26. We take pride in our approach to diversity and inclusion: we've been recognised by The Times and Stonewall for our commitment to diversity and we've set ambitious 2025 targets to continue to increase diversity and representation. We're also committed to investing £30million across our markets over the next three years to improve our approach to diversity and inclusion, and to tackle racial injustice.
