6 Hacks to Simplify Aframe ...

Of course you know Aframe's platform in a general sense - it's always been there for you when you needed to move media quickly from A to B, some late-night tagging, or some global collaboration in between. But have you taken time to really get to know it? These tricks of the trade will help you get the most out of Aframe's latest releases.

1. Aframe's Desktop App (now with added download) Getting media into one central location and making it easily viewable by project stakeholders is still a major issue for dispersed teams.

Users can now create a mapping between a Collection within a project on Aframe and a local folder on their machine or shared storage. Any clips added to the Collection will be automatically downloaded to the user's machine / shared storage, as long as the app is running. As with upload, you can leave it running in the background, or hide it. The task bar icon will communicate current transfer activity status within the app.

On your Aframe dashboard you will find links to download the Desktop App - select your operating system and follow the simple step-by-step procedures to get up and running.

2. Narrow your searches for better results When you know what you're looking for, adding clever little search modifiers like including the & character between words can help you zero in - saving precious time in the edit.

For example: sunset & dusk will return you only the dusky sunset shots, rather than all of the shots of sunset, and all of the shots of dusk combined.

3. Restrict your Logger team members When inviting people to a team, or managing a team list, a project owner can decide to give that team member a logging only role. This is a restricted team role, where only the logging options are available on the left hand navigation, and access to other parts of the project (review panel, activities etc) are removed.

All project owners have got access to this new feature, and appears as an option during invite or managing the team on the settings page.

4. Add a comment to a specific frame by manually typing in your preferred timecode The timecode widget under the player is editable meaning you can jump to specific time codes (perhaps from log notes captured on set) by typing them in. You can also use the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard to jump forwards and backwards in the video by anything from a frame to an hour.

5. Keyboard shortcuts By memorizing these standard-editing shortcuts, reviewers will be able to quickly manoeuvre and execute commands for approval.

6. Direct your message Having auto complete for names is great, but on a large team it can be too much. Provide feedback to individual members of the team using the Twitter @username convention.
