Jack Emerson Receives InfoComm International Distinguished Achievement Award

InfoComm International , the leading professional audiovisual trade association, issued its Distinguished Achievement Award to Jack Emerson. The award was presented at InfoComm 2014, the top annual commercial audiovisual trade show taking place June 14-20 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jack Emerson founded CEAVCO in 1961 with the purchase of a company that held the RCA language lab distribution agreement. He quickly expanded by adding other lines of AV equipment and sold almost exclusively to the education market. CEAVCO expanded into corporate video by becoming one of Sonys first industrial video dealers, and later a Sony broadcast representative. He led the company until his retirement in 2013.

Emerson always believed in the power of associating with industry peers. CEAVCO was an active member of InfoComm's predecessor organization, NAVA, and was one of the first 10 members of PSNI, where he encouraged and promoted innovative programs, including the publishing the largest AV and broadcast end-user catalog in the industry.

Emerson avidly embraced InfoComms Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) program and drove CEAVCO to attain the highest level Certified Audiovisual Solutions Provider (CAVSP) status. Emerson was one of the ten founding financial donors of the International Communications Industry Foundation (ICIF), which launched the establishment of a permanent facility to teach and foster training and professional development. In addition, he encouraged and sponsored members of his own staff to become active volunteers on InfoComm committees and councils. Emerson served on InfoComms Board of Governors from 1993 to 1996, pivotal years for the association, as it experienced financial difficulties. He served on the Executive Search Committee when the Executive Director was replaced.

Under Emersons tenure on the Board, InfoComm truly became an international organization and provided innovative leadership in the industry. With a career spanning five decades in the industry, Jack Emerson was constantly learning, sharing, reinventing, and mentoring generations of InfoComm volunteers, PSNI affiliates, and CEAVCO employees. His words of wisdom and encouragement have been sought out by association leaders and others who paid forward the example set by him to promote and encourage growth and industry change.

InfoComms Distinguished Achievement Award is the highest honor bestowed on an industry member by the association. Jack Emerson spent his career donating his time and expertise to the association, and teaching others to do the same, said David Labuskes, CTS, RCDD, Executive Director and CEO, InfoComm International. His legacy of leadership leaves an indelible imprint on InfoComm and the industry, making him the ideal recipient of this award.
