Veterans in Film and Television Launches Production Aistant Workshop at Sony Studios, Los Angeles

Veterans in Film and Television stepped up their commitment to ensuring that veterans get back to work in the entertainment industry by providing formal training for aspiring production assistants. This two-day workshop taught by notable industry names, such as Erin Gray, will formally train and prepare all participants of the program to become candidates for gainful employment as Production Assistants.

The purpose of this workshop is twofold; to support the industry with formally trained production assistants, which is something that is greatly needed and will impact the efficiency of productions, and secondly, it will give veterans an education and a step up for those who seek to work in the entertainment field. Hosting and supporting the efforts of Veterans in Film and Television is in alignment with our commitment to the production community. At Sony DMPC, on the Sony Studio Lot, we are able to educate and train aspiring and awarded production talent. Dan Perry, Director NAO Production Manager/Director DMPC of Sony Electronics.

The two-day workshop agenda will be broken into production categories; feature film (high to low budget), episodic TV, non-scripted TV (reality), commercials, and music videos. The workshop is designed as an intensive education program, giving the participants detailed training so that they can immediately apply what they have learned on the job. A sampling of topics to be covered are; production paperwork, set protocol, roles and functions, terminology, gear, and equipment training.

Service members traditionally bring discipline, self-motivation and high attention to detail when performing outside of the military service. By providing this workshop they can now incorporate this new education with their stringent military training the outcome being employment within the entertainment business. This will benefit the veterans, their families, and the industry as a whole, said Mark August, USNR (Ret), VFT Advisor and President to the Society of Camera Operators.
