Marlow Film Studios has announced its intention to appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.

Image: Marlow Film Studios Following a rejection by the Buckinghamshire County Council Strategic Sites Committee earlier this year, the team behind the project issued a statement confirming it will submit an appeal to the UK Planning Inspectorate, which will include a request for a public inquiry.

The proposal to build a studio complex on the site of a former quarry near Marlow had received considerable support, including backing from Avatar and Titanic director, James Cameron, who mentioned the site as a potential European home for his LIGHTSTORM 3D company in a letter of support. However, the council turned down the application despite revisions which aimed to address concerns over local infrastructure.

In its statement, Marlow Film Studios said it remained confident in the strength of its case, and of the benefits the project would bring for both the local community and wider economy. The proposals forecast a £3.2 billion boost in the local area over the first decade, representing, a major growth investment in jobs and skills for Buckinghamshire and for the UK, and strengthening the UK's position in the film and TV industry.

A protest group opposing against the studio has campaigned against the project citing concerns over its environmental impact. Addressing this, the statement said, We will be investing in vital local traffic infrastructure and sustainable public transport and will provide significant improvements to the local community, adding, The investment presents a significant opportunity to utilise and substantially improve a despoiled former landfill site.
