Die Windpomp wins Best Foreign Film at Long Beach International Film Festival --

The local Afrikaans film Die Windpomp (The Windmill) has won the Audience Award for Best Foreign Film at the 2015 Long Beach International Film Festival in New York, which ran from 24 to 27 September. This marks the film s first award in the US, competing against over 50 internationally acclaimed films.
I m particularly delighted that Die Windpomp won this festival, says producer Chris Roland. It means that Die Windpomp resonated for the discerning New York film critics and audience, not an easy crowd to please. Producer Lee-Ann Cotton adds, An Afrikaans film to be chosen from so many excellent films from all over the world for such a prestigious festival as this, and to win it, this is a big deal!
Written and directed by Etienne Fourie, Die Windpomp revolves around a summer romance between Hendri (Armand Greyling) and Margot (Leandie du Randt), two young people living in a retirement village, with an unexpected twist the audience does not see coming.
Die Windpomp has been raking in the awards since its release, including winning at Silwerskermfees and the SAFTA s, as well as official selections at international film festivals in Australia, California and the UK. Die Windpomp screens next at the Southampton International Film Festival in the UK in October, and is being marketed to distributors and buyers at the American Film Market in November.
