Plans for a new film studio complex on the Isle of Wight have been conditionally approved by the local council.
Image: Medina Studios Ltd First proposed in 2022, Medina Studios Ltd plans to redevelop a 14 acre riverside site on land currently owned by Isle of Wight council. Aiming to create the island's first screen-based media hub , the company's proposals include four sound stages, two workshops and production support facilities at Kingston Marine Park in East Cowes.
The council's planning committee considered the submission in a meeting on 24th September, with approval granted subject to several conditions, which include the submission of a Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) aimed at minimising impact during the building phase and a Flood Warning and Evacuation Plan (FWEP). A Biodiversity Mitigation and Enhancement Plan worded specifically to ensure minimal impacts to the area's slow worm and barn owl populations is also a requirement.
According to Medina's website, the company's creative vision for the project aims to develop a self-sustaining, state-of-the-art media campus; a production hub for international and domestic film production, television, visual effects, and gaming.
