Token Creek Mobile Television Outfits HD Production Truck with Gra Valley Live Production Solutions

Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, has supplied mobile production truck operator Token Creek Mobile Television with sophisticated new cameras and advanced switcher technology for its Sioux HD mobile unit. The purchase includes 10 LDX Premi re advanced imaging cameras, 14 XCU eXchangeable Control Unit base stations and a Karrera Video Production Center switcher with K-Frame, which gives Token Creek greater flexibility in delivering high-quality mobile broadcasts to its growing client base. The purchase builds upon the longstanding relationship between the two companies and adds to Token Creek's existing fleet of Grass Valley technology, which now includes 38 cameras and five production switchers.

Token Creek's Sioux HD truck is a 48-foot expanding-side trailer that supports local, regional and national events for cable networks as well as broadcast facilities.

In looking for a new camera system for our Sioux HD truck, we wanted something that was triax based and that offered a solid single-mode fiber option that was directly integrated into the system, explained Brendan Clark, director of engineering, Token Creek Mobile Productions. The twin base stations and the fiber-to-triax converters fit our needs perfectly. The XCU cradle system gives us the flexibility to move the cameras around our fleet without having to spend time rewiring, which is a huge advantage. Plus, the Karrera with K-Frame gives us a great return on investment because it's an extremely powerful switcher, he added.

The LDX Premi re camera delivers uncompromised performance in standard multiformat 1080i and 720p acquisition and is fully compatible with Grass Valleys line of 3G transmission solutions that support all HD formats (720p, 1080i and 1080p). To support a client's recent 3G production, Token Creek was able to take advantage of the GV-eLicense program and upgraded five of their cameras from Premi re to WorldCam on a one-week basis. This unique upgrade feature provides broadcasters with a flexible tradeoff between CAPEXs and OPEXs. The XCU base stations give Token Creek full 3G transmission connectivity for both triax and fiber. The unique XCU cradles are premounted and prewired in the rack, making a secure mechanical and electrical connection. They can easily slide in and out whenever needed and are transferrable between all of the company's mobile units.

The powerful Karrera with K-Frame provides an unsurpassed level of performance to live productions and is a 1080p-capable SD/HD/3G/4K switcher that can adapt to offer up to 192 inputs, 96 outputs and 9 M/Es with six keyers in every full M/E.
