The career of a professional editor has evolved dramatically over the past 20 years. Staying up-to-date with the exponential changes in digital technology, working with diminishing budgets and keeping up with the expectations of ever-changing audiences with short attention spans are just a few of the many challenges editors now have to contend with. Additionally, the abundance of affordable editing software now available on the market combined with a lack of knowledge on the importance of what a professional editor actually does often gives the impression that anyone can now be an editor. A significant part of the job-seeking venture now includes educating clients on the numerous advantages of hiring a professional editor for their project and in promoting why editing style is crucial in the structure and form of the storytelling process. To flourish as an editor in today's market means taking charge and being proactive in treating your craft as both a creative venture and in branding yourself as a business at the same time.
The Business Of Editing panel discussion promises to give editors new ideas and inspiration on what it takes to succeed in the new world of post-production. Moderated by journalist Debra Kaufman, The Business Of Editing is an expert panel comprised of film and television editors that include: Richard Halsey , Tina Hirsch (editor, Gremlins, Dante's Peak), Norman Hollyn (editor, Heathers, Wild Palms), and Glenn Morgan (editor, Project Runway, Under The Gunn, RoboCop 2).
Hosted by AlphaDogs Post Production, the Editors' Lounge panel discussions are supplementary to the classroom style hands-on educational events that are held monthly, free of charge. Founder and President of AlphaDogs, Terence Curren explains, It's now more important then ever for professional editors to stay educated on the latest trends in technology in an extremely competitive job market.
