International Film Competition Returns To Johannesburg

In the Johannesburg edition of the international 48 Hour Film Project, locals write, shoot and edit a 4 to 7-minute film in just one weekend. The event weekend runs from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 September 2018. Kick-off will be at the Mall of Africa in Midrand at 18h30 on 21 September and films must be delivered by 19h30 on Sunday 23 September to be eligible for the awards. All films delivered on Sunday is eligible to be screened at Ster-Kinekor during the film's premier week, 7 - 11 October 2018 and everyone is invited.

People of all ages, skill and experience levels are welcome. Experienced and new filmmakers find that the deadline pushes them to end the weekend with a finished film - something that is very hard to do in the real world.

According to Natalie Delport, producer of the Johannesburg 48 Hour Film Project Filmmakers find that seeing their film on the big screen in front of a live audience is thrilling and an experience they will never forget. All films shown are eligible for audience recognition, and those that are submitted on-time are judged for various awards by a professional and local filmmaker panel. The film declared to be the overall Best Film of Johannesburg will be sent to the international 48HFP competition, Filmapalooza, hosted in March 2019 in Orlando Florida, USA, to be screened and judged with over 100 city winners from around the globe. From there, 12 films will be chosen to screen in the Short Film Corner at the Cannes International Film Festival.
