Record 48 Workshops to Focus on Next-Gen Customer Experiences, Video and Networks
JUNE 16, 2014 (Exton, PA) Technologies that are shaping the future of three key areas customer experience, video delivery and network capabilities will share the spotlight when the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) hosts a record number of educational workshops at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo this fall in Denver.
Forty-eight workshops each typically featuring two deep-dive sessions by subject matter experts will address how cable engineering and operations professionals can harness technology to optimize today's offerings and more notably to unlock the next generation of cable telecommunications services. The workshops will be conducted Monday through Thursday, Sept. 22-25, at the Colorado Convention Center.
The educational smorgasbord will zero in on Next-Generation Customer Experience (Improving Operations, Defining/Redefining the Connected Home, and the role of the "Silicon Technician"); Next-Generation Video (All-IP Video, Ultra HD/HEVC/HDR, Video Portability, Next-Gen User Interfaces); and Next-Generation Networks (Architectures and Virtualized-, Cloud- and Software-Defined Networks for Gigabit Services and Beyond).
Both the workshops agenda and a Sept. 22 Wireless and DOCSIS 3.1 Pre-Conference Symposium were created by the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014 Program Committee chaired by Tony Werner, executive vice president and CTO of Comcast Cable.
"The cable technology community is continuing to raise the bar when it comes to the innovation and service delivery that can attract and retain customers," said Daniel Howard, senior vice president and CTO of SCTE. "The agenda created by Tony Werner and our Program Committee is designed to provide engineering and operations professionals with the tools they need to sharpen our industry's competitive edge."
Among the topics that will be addressed at Expo 2014 workshops will be:
"Silicon Technician" innovations such as apps, tools and automated solutions for proactively identifying or quickly resolving problem areas that can impact customer experiences;
Cable operator and vendor perspectives on deployment of Ultra HD/HEVC/HDR video, as well as discussion of technological approaches and migration strategies for the rollout of UHD/HEVC/HDR services;
How operators and vendors are leveraging RDK and other agile development and DevOps approaches to transform user interfaces, personalize customer experiences and increase accessibility for those with special needs;
How software-defined networks and network function virtualization can drive increased service velocity and performance for residential and business services; and
The imminent implementation of DOCSIS 3.1, including migration strategies, techniques for expanding upstream bandwidth and other deployment issues.
