Netflix's tentpole Chinese-language series The Resurrected is selected for the On Screen section at this year's Busan International Film Festival. Showcasing the most anticipated series from around the world, the On Screen section aims to showcase cinema's expanding trends and values, marking a significant milestone in The Resurrected's international debut.

The Resurrected brings together acclaimed directors Leste Chen (Eternal Summer) and Hsu Chao-jen (Living). Set against the backdrop of a chilling fraud-kidnapping case, the series explores the dark moral terrain of two mothers determined to resurrect a criminal mastermind sentenced to death - and the harrowing journey of vengeance and redemption that follows. Following the announcement of its October 9 premiere, The Resurrected quickly became one of the most talked-about series online.

The Resurrected shares a long and meaningful history with BIFF. Directors Chen and Hsu were both previously selected for the Festival's New Currents competitive section with Eternal Summer and Together, respectively. More notably, The Resurrected itself was first introduced to the industry at the Festival's Asian Project Market back in 2006 - a small but pivotal moment that planted the seed for the series' creation. Though it was not possible to produce a series of this scale at the time, the story evolved over the years, integrating timely social themes and maturing into a high-quality, large-scale production. Now, almost two decades later, The Resurrected makes its triumphant return to Busan as a fully realized series, featuring a top-tier production and an ensemble of award-winning actors.

Both hope that The Resurrected will resonate with global audiences, immersing them in its emotional depth and powerful message. Director Chen shared, BIFF holds great significance in my career as a filmmaker. Coming back here after 19 years is especially moving.

Busan is a place that carries deep sentimental value for me. To be seen by the world here marks a new beginning with special meaning, added Director Hsu.

The series Festival selection has also been met with excitement from its two leading stars, Shu Qi and Sinje Lee, who portray mothers bound by tragedy and vengeance. "I've had films shown at Busan International Film Festival before, but I'm still a little emotional returning - this time with a series! It feels like I'm crossing into a new world. The Resurrected marks my return to longform storytelling after 20 years, and during that time, the global film and TV landscape has changed so much - from how we tell stories to how audiences receive them. I've also been exploring new creative expressions and roles. I'm really looking forward to sharing this project with the audiences at Busan and hearing their thoughts, comments Shu Qi. Sinje Lee also shared her excitement, saying, It's such an honor to have The Resurrected premiere on the big screen at a landmark event like the Busan International Film Festival.
