Mistika used in BAFTA-winning David Attenborough s Natural History Museum Alive D 4K film

Sir David Attenborough is the only person to have received a BAFTA in five formats, black and white, colour, HD, 3D and now 4K.

SGO's Mistika was used at London's ONSIGHT in David Attenborough's Natural History Museum Alive (3D) which has just reaped a coveted BAFTA TV Award in the Specialist Factual Category. Produced by Colossus Productions, a joint venture between Atlantic Productions and Sky 3D, Mistika technology played a major role in post at ONSIGHT in the exceptional project.

Atlantic Productions David Attenborough's Natural History Museum Alive via ONSIGHT

David Attenborough's Natural History Museum Alive was shot in 5K using Red Epics resulting in 400GB of data an hour being generated. CGI creatures included the yeti and a diplodocus, with all animation delivered at 4K to ensure high image quality for future proofing. In post, ONSIGHT used Mistika for the deliveries in 3D and 2D, led by the facility's Senior Colourist Andy Lee.

ONSIGHT utilised a wide variety of Mistika's tools for colour and depth grading, stereo correction, VFX paint and compositing as well as finishing. Simon Craddock, CEO of ONSIGHT remarks, Mistika was central to the post process and helped us to meet the demands of this complex 4K project. The ONSIGHT team is extremely proud to have been involved in another BAFTA Award-winning production from Atlantic Productions and Sky.

The film is ONSIGHT's sixth 3D Attenborough project, as a key provider of post and cameras, with Atlantic Productions and Sky. The first collaboration was Flying Monsters 3D, which won the same award in 2011, making it the first S3D programme to win a BAFTA. It was also awarded the prestigious IBC2011 Special Award which was presented to Atlantic Productions with Sky 3D, ONSIGHT and SGO Mistika as supporting partners, for remarkable Stereo 3D production and post production. Previous films which involved Mistika, include The Bachelor King, Kingdom of Plants, Galapagos 3D and Micro Monsters 3D with a number of these titles going to Giant Screen.

ONSIGHT's other recent credits include Peter Gabriel's Back to Front in 4K (for Done and Dusted/Real World/Eagle Rock Entertainment) and current project Walking With Dinosaurs (for BBC Earth).
