Akamai improves efficiency in the workflow with CMAFs format OTT Su servicio de transcodificaci n en la nube para contenido a la carta ya admite el formato CMAF (Common Media Application Format), com n de aplicaciones multimedia
The transcoding service in the cloud for content to the letter Akamai admite desde hoy el formato CMAF (Common Media Application Format), com n de aplicaciones multimedia. La especificaci n CMAF define un formato de archivo com n para la distribuci n de contenido multimedia segmentado que, en la actualidad, es un proyecto de norma internacional auspiciado por el grupo MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group, grupo de expertos de imagen en movimiento). El dise o de este formato com n de archivos permite alcanzar la m xima eficiencia en la codificaci n, el empaquetado, el almacenamiento y la distribuci n de contenido OTT en todo el ecosistema de v deo online.
Con el fin de llegar al m ximo posible de espectadores, los proveedores de contenido se ven obligados a crear y almacenar varias representaciones de cada t tulo para acomodar diversos tipos de dispositivos y formatos de reproducci n. Aunque los formatos individuales gozan de buena salud, los requisitos de procesamiento redundante y de almacenamiento extraordinario introducen una probabilidad mayor de comisi n de errores, aumentan la complejidad y suben los gastos. El est ndar CMAF tiene como finalidad optimizar el proceso entero, ya que permite la reproducci n en cualquier dispositivo de una nica representaci n de archivo.
Sam Rosen, vicepresidente de ABI Research, destaca que la tecnolog a CMAF representa la convergencia del sector de OTT hacia el uso de un solo tipo de contenedor de archivos para distribuir activos multimedia a una amplia variedad de dispositivos, desde Smart TV, port tiles y tel fonos hasta relojes inteligentes. CMAF admite el cifrado com n y los c decs de nueva generaci n, as como el v deo y el audio multipista junto con los subt tulos avanzados, lo cual facilita el lanzamiento de servicios internacionales. Los productores de contenido, los codificadores, los distribuidores y los consumidores: todos se benefician del aumento en la eficiencia que permite el formato de archivo convergente nico .
Inicialmente, la compatibilidad con CMAF se pone a disposici n de los clientes que usen los servicios de transcodificaci n por encargo de Akamai, los cuales forman parte de nuestra soluci n de flujo de trabajo OTT basada en la nube, Media Services On Demand. Aparte de la compatibilidad existente con formatos consolidados, como Adobe HDS, Apple HLS, Microsoft Smooth Streaming y MPEG-DASH, hay disponible una opci n de preparaci n de contenido CMAF.
Will Law, arquitecto jefe de Contenido Multimedia de Akamai, reconoce que Akamai mantiene el compromiso de impulsar el desarrollo y el crecimiento del sector del v deo OTT posibilitando la compatibilidad con est ndares relevantes, como CMAF, sin descuidar a sus clientes actuales, a quienes sigue ayudando en cuestiones tecnol gicas y comerciales a distribuir a escala v deo online de la m xima calidad. CMAF simplifica las complejidades inherentes a los flujos de trabajo de OTT y permite a los proveedores de contenido llegar a un p blico m s nutrido con m s eficiencia y calidad, pero menos gastos de explotaci n .
