Two sites in Ningbo elected Important Archological Discoveries in Zhejiang

The results of the Important Archeological Discoveries of Zhejiang in 2015 appraisal sponsored by the Institute of Archaeology of Zhejiang came out that the two sites of Ningbo, namely, Yushan Ancient Ruins in Zhenhai and Yinjiang Song and Yuan Ruins in Yinzhou stood out of the 40 candidate archaeological projects and were awarded the title of Important Archeological Discoveries of Zhejiang in 2015, together with the other eight sites including Yujiashan Liangzhu Cultural Moat Settlement Site in Yuhang, Hangzhou.

The excavation of Yushan Ancient Ruins started from June 2013 and ended in February 2015, with total excavation area of 4,350 square meters, among which the excavation area of Yushan Ruins takes up 4,300 square meters and the trial excavation area of Wuguishan Relics 50 square meters. Nearly 300 places with relics from the prehistoric times to the Tang and Song Dynasties are discovered and more than 600 pieces (sets) of important cultural relics are unearthed. Yushan Ancient Ruins is currently known as a Hemudu Culture Site closest to the coastline. It is also one of the most important prehistoric cultural sites containing Liangzhu Culture Relics that have ever been discovered in Ningbo and Shaoxing region for the past two decades. The Yushan Ancient Ruins fills the gap of the prehistoric culture of Zhenhai.

The exploration, excavation and remote sensing detection of Yinjiang Song and Yuan Ruins in Yinzhou started in October 2013 and ended in November 2015 with total excavation area of 1070 square meters. Many relics have been found, such as ancient river course, stone embankment ,road, kitchen range and house foundation during the Song and Yuan Dynasties and more than 620 pieces of cultural relics are unearthed. The discovery of the ruins provides new real object proofs for the study of the water conservancy construction and economic development along Yinjiang river during the Song and Yuan Dynasties.
