International Surfing Day: Episode III- Revenge of the Lowers Raid

Yesterday, International Surfing Day fell on the first day of summer, and with the crazy heatwave hitting Southern California, you couldn't have scripted a better beach day. We partnered with our friends at Stance, Catch Surf and Swell for the most epic ditch workday of the year - the 3rd Annual Lowers Raid. The Lowers Raid made its first appearance back in 2012 when surfers from all over Southern California donned their wackiest attire to storm the beach at Trestles in San Clemente.

However, this isn't your typical surf session. Cutting off, dropping in and running over your friends and co-workers was not only allowed and encouraged, but also expected. Armed with Catch Surf soft-top boards, foam swords, pool noodles and GoPros, the mass of surfers paddled out to wreak some ISD havoc.

This year, the crew took it up a notch - upgrading our status to business class. Keeping true to the ditch work theme, surfers showed up in finest business casual attire to celebrate the day. Dressed in suits and ties, a group of over 100 surfers rallied down to the sand and waited for the Surfing America 2016 Championships at Lowers Trestles to finish up. After the final countdown, Metallica blasted from the loud speakers and the announcers even stuck around to call the waves for this epic sight from the sand. From Maui groms, Roberson Brothers, to local veteran surfers, the entire surf community came out to welcome the summer and celebrate a day of surfing. GoPro athletes Lakey Peterson, Filipe Toledo, and Kalani Robb joined in on the fun and competed for Lowers Raid victory.
