Winners Photo Contest 0: Moments wiout limits for the Carl Zei Photo Contest 0

Polish photographer Mateusz Martyna has won the Carl Zeiss Photo Contest 2012, which ran under the motto "The moment that knows no limits". This is the third time that the contest has been held via the Flickr photo community. Martynas winning image, "Handplant at Tatra Mountains," interprets the contest theme in a spectacular way. The image shows Tomasz "Tylas" Tylka, a well-known Polish snowboarder, as he performs a daring flip.

The photographer is thrilled about winning first place: "I have been photographing for so long. Winning this years Carl Zeiss Photo Contest makes me proud and shows me that my efforts have paid off."

The Carl Zeiss jury nominated this impressive image as well as 14 others for the shortlist. "The image reflects the theme of the contest perfectly all limits and laws seem to be suspended in the moment of the jump," says Martin Dominicus, Head of Marketing of the Carl Zeiss Camera Lens Division. "We congratulate all the winners for their images and thank them for taking part in the contest. With lots of creativity and intuition the participants captured special moments that translate the motto of this years photo contest in surprising and creative ways. The extremely diverse and impressive results show very well how a tiny moment can tell a big story," says Dominicus.

Carl Zeiss invited photographers from around the world to turn their ideas into exciting images from the middle of December 2012 until mid-January 2013. Anyone could take part in the contest as long as the image was shot with a ZEISS lens.

http://www.flickr.com). Members could not only track all submissions, but also vote for the actual winners from the jurys shortlist. Around 1,900 votes were cast by the Flickr community during the two-week evaluation period. With a total of 557 votes, the winning image was clearly ahead of the rest.

The second-place winner was Mac Kwan from China. His picture shows four children playing in an old Jeep. "The cheerfulness of these boys and girls, who live in great poverty on the Philippine island of Cebu, shows plainly: for one moment, the worries and fears disappear amidst the slums of Cebu City," says Domincus.

Mac Kwan wants to dedicate his award to the children of Cebu City: "The cheerfulness of the kids really touched me. Childhood has a magic that can sometimes shine independent of difficult external circumstances."

The image that won third prize, shot by Zoe Myint from Dubai, tells a completely different story. "In an uneven race, a motocross driver and jet airplane cross each others paths, unbeknownst to both. The magic of this moment lies in the apparent weightlessness and surrealism; the laws of physics seem to be suspended," explains Dominicus.

Zoe Myint knows he had a lot of luck in being able to photograph this duel. "The fact that so many people voted for my picture gives me a great feeling and motivates me to keep my eyes wide open for such extraordinary motifs."

But the other winning images are also impressive. Whether a burning crater lake, the endless expanses of the Swiss Alps or the elemental force of the Altantic Ocean, each image shows a moment without boundaries and captivates the beholder. The photographs by Raymond Hoffmann, Bernhard Thum and Stephanie Rose Wood and the other winners are all testament to that.
