MakeHuman Open-Source Software Released in Version .0

MakeHuman, an open-source application designed for the parametric prototyping of 3D photorealistic humanoids for illustrations, animations, games, and sculpting, is now in version 1.0 for Linux, Windows, and OS X.

With this software, a standard androgynous human base can be transformed into a great variety of characters, simply modifying a series of intuitive characteristics like age, gender, weight, height, muscular tone, by using linear interpolation to mix them.

The content created with MakeHuman is licensed under the No Rights Reserved liberal CC0 license, giving artists unprecedented freedom to use their MakeHuman creations in any way

The new version includes many improvements and changes: a new stable and easy graphical user interface, a perfect character topology without triangles, almost poles-less, optimized for animations and for sculpting with Zbrush or Mudbox, and new libraries of high-quality assets such as very realistic polygonal hair, teeth, eyes and skins, which are ready for use in games/real-time simulations and other forms of 3D artwork.

The software is written in Python, the widely popular scripting language used at Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) since 1996, which makes the application simple and highly portable.

Makehuman 1.0.0 also includes BlenderTools, a set of Blender plugins to create Makehuman assets and to import and animate the character in Blender.

MakeHuman is a open-source tool designed by a team of passionate people to simplify the creation of virtual humans using a Graphical User Interface.It has been developed by a community of programmers, artists and academics interested in 3D modeling since 1999.

The virtual human is ready to be exported in external 3D software (Blender, XSI, Max) or to be rendered quick with the internal engine.
