Sony debuts new features ahead of BURANO v2.0 release

Sony has announced a range of new features and improvements ahead of the forthcoming BURANO 2.0 firmware update.

Scheduled for release in March, BURANO Version 2.0 improvements will include increased support for SDI output, proxy recording and additional recording modes aimed at meeting demand from the user community.

Designed to allow the user to prioritise faster sensor performance depending on requirements, new recording formats will include a 3.8K Full Frame crop leveraging the entire sensor to enable shooting at up to 120 fps, and a 1.9K mode that can shoot up to 240 fps.

Additional formats include 24.00 fps to X-OCN 16:9 imager modes and BURANO 2.0 will add a 1.8x de-squeeze setting as well as additional high frame rate (S & Q) modes, including up to 66, 72, 75, 88, 90, 96, and 110 fps. Proxy recording will be added for 24.00 fps formats.

Standardised SDI video output will enable monitoring across X-OCN and X-AVC with breathing compensation and image stabilisation metadata in X-OCN, time code and clip name metadata to SDI output, said the company.

An on-screen display will place camera status information outside of the image. View Finder Gamma Display is included while using S-Log3 for monitoring.

Image output and added exposure tools BURANO 2.0 provides enhanced image output while using preset S-Log3 look or 3d User LUTs, added Sony, with Auto Focus performance enhanced when recording with 23.98, 24, 25, and 29.97 frame rates.

Additional exposure tools derived from the VENICE camera system are included and BURANO 2.0 will also expand white balance memory presets from 3 to 8 as well as supporting Active/High Image Stabilisation in Full-Frame crop 6K and Super 35 1.9K 16:9 imager modes.

Media can be formatted from the status screen, with CAM ID and Reel Number also able to be set. Factory default setting will change from 59.94 to 23.98p with a reset setting.
