African Filmmakers can attend co-production sessions throughout the 5th Durban FilmMart, set to take place on the 18 21 July 2014, at the Elangeni Tsogo Sun Hotel, Durban.
One of the Co-production sessions will be taking place on Monday 21 July 10:00 10:45 hosted by the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), who will be promoting the South Africa (SA)/Kenya Film Commission (KFC) Co-Production agreement. Delegates participating in this session include South African Film Producer Dumi Gumbi and Kenyan Film Producers Messrs Dayo Ogunyemi, Feisal Malik and Judy Kibinge.
The NFVF will host an African co-production forum with a special focus on Kenya and Nigeria. The two countries were chosen by virtue of the MOU the NFVF has with the Kenya Film Commission and the pending signing of the MOU between Nigerian Film Corporation and the NFVF. The NFVF is aware of the co-production activities between filmmakers from the two countries. It is hoped that the forum will serve as a stimulus of further co-operation with these countries and other African countries in general and, explore funding, distribution and exhibition in South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria, says NFVF s Film Certification Manager Terrence Khumalo.
The Goethe-Institut, the Federal Republic of Germany s cultural institute, has attended DIFF and DFM regularly over the past years, and this year will host a breakfast presenting Meike Martens, Producer and CEO of Blinker Filmproduktion in Cologne and Project Director of dok you, a German pilot project for development, production and distribution of creative documentaries for young audiences; and Philipp Hoffmann, consultant and representative of production companies in the field of international sales and marketing, and an expert for the German speaking VOD market. The German Delegation will be taking part in co-production discussions at the DFM on Sunday, 20 July from 8h00, along with Lien Heidenreich-Seleme, Head of Cultural Programmes at the Goethe-Institut. Through our involvement we hope to create the networks and conditions to be able to continue to produce films of high quality and relevance to audiences in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as on a global level, says Lien Heidenreich.
The last session of co-production discussions will take place at a Breakfast Session. The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Film Commission will host a closed breakfast session on Monday, 21 July at 8h00 with. The Italian Film Writers and Film Directors Association, Controluce. The Italian delegates from Controluce will be attending this year s DFM to embark on co-production discussions to promote Italian cinema, develop cultural and professional relationships, and with the financial support of the Italian Arts and Cultural Ministry, MIBACT, they will look to foster co-production between Italian and South African Producers.
The KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission is proud to host the co-production forum with Italy. The forum will take place on Monday the 21 July at 8h00am. The KZN Film Commission has invited key producers from Italy to attend DIFF. The delegation will comprise of, Marco Amenta, Annamaria Gallone, Antonio Falduto, Silvia and Anita Scola presenting the film Che Strano, Silvio Orlando and Actress Annamaria Rondini presenting The Human Factor, as well as Serena Mignani and Simone Bachini. We look forward to a very informative and productive meeting, says KZN Film Commission s Marketing and Communication Manager, Hlengiwe Matiwane.
The DFM aims to facilitate intercultural exchanges, build on local and international networking, and promote international co-production in cultural sectors. With Controluce, Goethe Institut and the Kenyan delegation participating in the co-production sessions throughout the DFM, we are looking forward to building stronger ties with these three distinguished film and cultural corporations, says Durban Film Office s Toni Monty.
The Durban FilmMart, takes place on the 18 21 July at the Elangeni Tsogo Sun Hotel, alongside the Durban International Film Festival from the 17 27 July. The DFM is a developmental initiative which was created by the Durban International Film Festival and Durban Film Office. Through partnerships, old and new, the DFM helps African filmmakers improve their skills, network with local and international film experts and opens up profitable opportunities to further develop and complete their projects.
