For the recent 2024 Paris Olympics, Media Links solutions facilitated the transport of hundreds of feeds utilizing JPEG-XS compression. These services operated at bit rates ranging from 150 to 425 Mbits/sec, demonstrating the technology's ability to squeeze broadcast quality video into bandwidth-constrained networks without compromising picture fidelity while minimizing overall transport costs.
Media Links is also very active in promoting the virtues of JPEG-XS through the Video Services Forum (VSF), where John Dale, Media Links CMO and Corporate Director, has been the chair of the JPEG-XS Activity group, producing the TR-07 and TR-08 Technical Recommendations.
Additional JPEG-XS recognition and endorsement occurred during the recent Sports Video Group Panel, New Sensation: How JPEG XS Is Changing the Game for Live Production, where there was enthusiastic acceptance of its video processing features for the broadcast media marketplace.
JPEG-XS is a compelling technology since it is suited for 4K, UHD, and HDR workflows and is supported by SMPTE ST2110. It is also compatible with cloud transmission and storage, making it ideal for cloud-based media workflows as well as remote production/distribution.
Finally, Media Links is actively engaged in industry interoperability and fostering open standards, ensuring that JPEG-XS can be integrated across various vendor ecosystems. This makes it easier for broadcasters and network service providers to adopt and integrate JPEG-XS into their existing workflows. At the upcoming Inter BEE 2024 exhibition in Japan, Media Links will be demonstrating the integration of JPEG-XS in real-world media workflows at the IP Pavilion and will highlight JPEG-XS technology in its Xscend Media over IP platform and MDP Series of IP gateways on Inter BEE booth 5609.
