The 2012 Edinburgh Hogmanay celebrations were attended by approximately 75,000 party revellers, who were able to enjoy the live entertainment, by such renowned bands as Simple Minds, via large local multi-feed screens and sound systems stretching the length of Princes Street, thanks to the wireless technology of broadcast and dry hire specialists Presteigne Charter.
Utilising the Argyll Tower within Edinburgh Castle as the wireless hub, Presteigne Charter's team of Special Projects Engineers installed wireless video and audio links from three stages across Edinburgh City Centre, connecting them to the central mixing location at the main stage within Princes Street Gardens.
This year, for the first time, the Home of Hogmanay choreographed the midnight fireworks to music, a mix of tracks from significant Scottish artists including Calvin Harris, and this formed part of the mixed presentation relayed via the castle hub to eight screens spread along Princes Street.
By using one roving handheld wireless camera and one camera installed at the North Bank stage, stunning visuals of the firework spectacular and stage performances were displayed, enhancing the ambience and excitement of the event. Wireless communications between all the stages linked the teams together.
After midnight, the street party continued with the REW1ND3R: The Biggest Party... in years relayed throughout Princes Street.
