The Active Archive Alliance today announced that Peter Faulhaber, president of Fujifilm Recording Media U.S.A., Inc., has been elected to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Active Archive Alliance. As a voting member of the Active Archive Alliance, Faulhaber has served on the Board of Directors since Fujifilm joined the organization in 2011.

When we joined other leading storage vendors in the Active Archive Alliance, the term active archive' was not in the vocabulary of most CIOs and IT storage managers, said Faulhaber. Not only has the organization grown over the past five years, but awareness and implementations of active archives for long-term storage have increased dramatically.

Massive data volumes, cloud storage, back up and protection, data preservation, compliance, and the explosion of unstructured data have driven the need for more advanced storage capabilities. A 2014 ESG Report underscored the need for active archives as organizations seek frequent and efficient access to data as well as ways to move that data from expensive primary storage to more affordable storage tiers.

As noted in a recent blog, 2015 Trends in Data Storage and Archiving, Active Archive Alliance members believe there will be increased adoption of storage tiers, with tape carrying more of the data load for both file and object based storage as an archive. There will also be greater intelligence between applications and storage to deliver the right storage to meet application performance while driving efficiencies that help keep storage costs within targeted budget requirements.

As the data storage industry continues to evolve, our focus will remain on promoting active archives for efficient, online access to data on the appropriate storage tiers to maximize bottom line savings.
