SA filmmakers attend MIPCOM --

The Association for Transformation in Film and Television (ATFT) along with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)s EMIA scheme and support from the Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) has facilitated the participation of selected South African filmmakers at MIPCOM, which takes place in Cannes, France, from the 13 to 16 October 2014. MIPCOM is an international market for entertainment content across all platforms which hosts 13,500 participants, 4,000 buyers and 267 journalists from a hundred countries in 2014.

The trip will allow South African producers to showcase their films, in any stage of development or production, to a global audience and potential buyers. Opportunities exist to forge co-production partnerships and develop new audiences for South African content. The delegation will also market the country as one of the worlds top production destinations.

ATFT member Tariq Khan of OOMPH! Animation, has been selected among 122 projects from 29 countries to pitch his project, OONGU LOONGU: Animal Palace, at the third edition of the MIPJunior International Pitch in front of an international jury representing, among others; National Geographic Kids, Amazon Studios and Turner Broadcasting Systems Europe.

OONGU LOONGU: Animal Palace is a fictional childrens animated comedy TV series and the first to educate and create an awareness on factual wildlife and conservation issues.

ATFT makes waves at MIPCOMFour members of the recently formed Association for Transformation in Film and Television (ATFT) Sifiso Khanyile, Shelley Barry, Mayenzeke Baza and Clayton Thom, as well as their mentor Marc Schwinges comprised the official South African delegation at the recent MIPCOM content market in Cannes, France.
