Amos 4 satellite succefully launched

The satellite will increase the Ku- and Ka-band capacities of the operator to provide high quality communication and broadcasting services in Israel and internationally

Rome, 01 September 2013 - The Amos 4 telecommunications satellite carrying radio frequency communication equipment, built by Thales Alenia Space under the contract signed with IAI, Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd., was successfully launched at 02:05 local time, 22:05 of August 31st in Italy, from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The Payload performance still to be verified during the Payload In-Orbit-Test (IOT) which is planned to start at mid-September 2013.

IAI, as prime contractor for Amos-4, built the satellite on behalf of Spacecom Ltd, Israeli satellite services operator.

Amos-4 will increase the Ku- and Ka-band capacities of the operator to provide high quality communication and broadcasting services in Israel and internationally.

With a launch mass of approximately 4.3 tons and a payload power of more than 4.0 kW, Amos-4 will be placed into a geostationary orbit, in a different orbital position than the Amos-2 and 3 satellites. Indeed, the latter satellites are positioned at 4 West on the Equator and allow Spacecom Ltd. to provide communication services over the Middle East, Central Europe and the United States of America.

Amos-4, on the other hand, positioned in 65 East, will allow the dissemination of services for a far more extensive group of customers, with a higher quality standard and over a wider coverage area, also including Asia.

After Amos-1, Amos-2 and Amos-3, the launch of Amos 4 testifies to the long time cooperation between Thales Alenia Space and IAI, and also the centrality of the company in the satellite telecommunications market.
