S o Paulo, August 5th, 2016 - Netflix continues to bring Brazilian content to the world as it announced today the start of principal photography on its first Brazilian original feature film, O Matador starting in August.
O Matador is a great addition to our programming strategy as it is a story that will cross borders and find its way to global audiences as it combines a unique storytelling and a multinational cast, said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. As we continue to invest in local talent, this film is our latest addition to our original content slate filmed in Brazil.
Created by Marcelo Galv o (Colegas), the story is a western that is set between the 1910s and 1940s and tells the story of Shaggy (Morgado), a feared killer in the state of Pernambuco. Shaggy, raised by a local bandit named Seven Ears (Montenegro) who found him as an abandoned baby, grows up in the wilderness, completely isolated from civilization. Now an adult, he finally goes to town to look for Seven Ears who has disappeared, but instead finds a place ruled by the tyrannical Monsieur Blanchard (Chicot), a Frenchman who runs the precious stones trade and previously employed Seven Ears as an assassin.

Main cast includes Diogo Morgado (Son of God), Nill Marcondes (A Frente Fria que a Chuva Traz; Man of the Year), Deto Montenegro (Colegas, Quarta B), Maria de Medeiros (The Forbidden Room; Pulp Fiction) and Etienne Chicot (The Da Vinci Code; Transsiberian). The cast also includes Mel Lisboa, Daniela Galli, Igor Cotrim and Tha s Cabral and the American Will Roberts.
