Three shows have broken records on homegrown African streaming service Showmax. Here's what you need to know about the record-breaking shows.

1. BLOOD PSALMS: MOST FIRST-DAY VIEWS OF ANY DRAMA ON SHOWMAX Blood Psalms set a new record for the most first-day views on Showmax for any drama series, ahead of international titles like Game of Thrones.
Set in Ancient Africa, the action-packed Blood Psalms follows Princess Zazi (Bokang Phelane) as she battles a world-ending prophecy to navigate her people through ancient curses, long-standing tribal vendettas and the wrath of the gods.
Co-creators Layla Swart and Jahmil XT Qubeka were responsible for South African Oscar entries Knuckle City and Sew The Winter To My Skin. They've assembled an incomparable cast, with nine SAFTA winners including Bongile Mantsai, Hamilton Dlamini, Hlubi Mboya, Mothusi Magano, S'dumo Mtshali, Siv Ngesi and more.

2. STEINHEIST: MOST FIRST-DAY VIEWS OF ANY DOCUMENTARY SERIES ON SHOWMAX Steinheist has set a new record on Showmax for the most first-day views of any documentary series. This was ahead of the SAFTA-winning true crime phenomenon Devilsdorp. Both Showmax Originals are produced by IdeaCandy.
Once billed as the Ikea of Africa, Steinhoff employed more than 130 000 people on more than 40 brands across four continents. Steinhoff-owned companies every South African will know include giants like Ackermans, Incredible Connection, Morkels, Pennypinchers, PEP, Russells, Tekkie Town, and Timbercity.
On 5 December 2017, CEO Markus Jooste resigned amid an investigation into accounting irregularities, and Steinhoff's share price plunged by 90% in a week. This wiped over R200 billion off Johannesburg's stock exchange, the JSE and off ordinary South Africans' pensions and investments.

3. COUNTY 49: MOST FIRST-DAY VIEWS EVER ON SHOWMAX IN KENYA Political thriller series County 49 has broken the record for the most first-day views on Showmax in Kenya. The series claimed the spot previously held by The Real Housewives of Lagos.
Set in the fictional Bwatele County, County 49 follows Nerimah Mkung (Wakio Mzenge), whose role as the new governor is put to the test when she's taken hostage by a mysterious group who've had enough of the county government's corruption and are now demanding what's rightfully theirs - their money, in billions and in cash. Whether she lives or dies lies in the hands of the very capable, disgraced officer Malik Maka (Peter Kawa), whose estranged wife has also been kidnapped, alongside the governor.
County 49 is directed by Likarion Wainaina, known for Kenya's first superhero film Supa Modo.
