Second Group of Emerging Leaders Graduate From CBC Intern and Leadership Program

The 2023 class of Emerging Leaders became Goodmon Fellows on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. The interns in Capitol Broadcasting's sophomore year of the new program with Leadership Triangle graduated at a luncheon in the PNC Triangle Club at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park with their CBC mentors and LT coaches in the crowd.

Leadership Triangle, what can I say?? said Emerging Leader intern Lauryn Goins. I came into this program not knowing what to anticipate, and I got everything I needed and much more I didn't know I did. Thank you for a great semester doing this internship, having this experience, and to a bright future ahead!!

Goins spent the four-month program at the Durham Bulls, learning the nuts and bolts of event planning and Human Resources.

I appreciate all the hard work and dedication of my managers at the Durham Bulls Baseball Club Na'Tasia Robinson, Sasha Moore, and Kreston Parker. You all have grown me in ways I could never imagine, she continued. From the cold days and long nights to the celebrations and fun times. I appreciate all you've taught me and look forward to staying in contact in the future.

CBC's 2023 group of Emerging Leaders graduated from the intern and leadership program, becoming Goodmon Fellows at a luncheon in the PNC Triangle Club at the Durham Bulls on Wednesday, December 13.

Corp Vice President of Social Responsibility Loretta Harper-Arnold has played an integral role in the program, invested in giving the next generation an opportunity to grow and get real world training.

With each new cohort we have a chance to learn and improve the program, she said. This year we found that students exhibited a high level of participation in the leadership development workshops. There were even several shining examples of students applying content learned in the biweekly workshops immediately into their internship roles.

Goins gave a special shout out to the CBC Vice President.

Thanks especially Loretta Harper-Arnold, for having the vision to start this program for Emerging Leaders such as myself and my wonderful cohort, said Goins.

CBC employees served as mentors in the various division in which the students interned, sharing their knowledge in a wealth of areas. CBC's DEIB Council also took part this year, attending a retreat weekend with the students.

One point of excitement was witnessing the connection between our DEIB Council and our Emerging Leaders, said Harper-Arnold. It was a major program highlight for this year's cohort and gave the students a chance to learn through mock interviews and to hear about working at CBC from a Council-led panelist discussion.

The students from the inaugural program are finding success, and CBC is reaping benefits. Anthony Robinson celebrated his one-year anniversary as a CBC employee on December 19. He is working in CBC's satellite division, Microspace, where he interned and impressed the staffers with whom he worked during his participation in the inaugural year of the program.

Partnering with our local HBCUs and Leadership Triangle gives us a unique partnership to contribute to diversifying the talent pipeline in our region while also investing in a future workforce that embodies highly desirable leadership qualities, said Harper-Arnold.

Plans are already underway for a third year of the program, coming in 2024.
