Race for HD Wirele

Tri-Lite TV provided broadcast facilities for coverage of the Canoe Sprint World Championships at the Welland International Flatwater Centre in Welland, Ontario July 30th through August 4th.

Chris Preiss shares his experience:

The competition was held at the brand new, purpose-built venue, which will also host the Canoe and Kayak events for the 2015 Pan Am games, in front of a large crowd of spectators. The event streamed live on the Canoe Niagara website and daily coverage was broadcast on SportsNet across Canada.

The 14 camera production included Meridian's Boxx wireless microwave camera system with remote paint control with a Sony HDC-1500 camera. The Meridian system worked flawlessly for the entire broadcast, and allowed for seamless integration of the camera into the production and provided the producers the flexibility of getting shots that were not possible with a wired camera.

This particular set-up utilized two sets of receiver antennas: omni directional and unidirectional, to allow for the maximum amount of coverage at the venue. The uni-directional antenna was placed on the roof of the 4-story timing/scoring tower at the finish line and covered the mix-zone area of the venue as well as the performance stage across the river from the broadcast compound. The omni-directional antenna was located at the back of the spectator stands and provided coverage of the medals ceremony area as well as allowing the cameraman to work in the stands for crowd shots and beauty transitions going into and out of commercial breaks.

The Meridian Boxx microwave system added significant production value to the broadcast and allowed for shots that would be been very difficult to obtain without the flexibility of a wireless system.

Tri-Lite TV provides HD mobile units and flight-packs to broadcast clients throughout Canada and the US.
