Following a buoyant and successful West Coast SMPTE 2014 in Hollywood during October, LEADER demonstrated its range of high quality test equipment to the East Coast broadcast and video production market at Content & Communications World in New York. The two-day exhibition opened at the Jacob Javits Convention Center on November 12.
LEADER displayed its recently introduced LV5333 3G-SDI-compatible multi-SDI monitor, the latest version of its LV5490 SD/HD/4K compact test instrument and the LT4600 multi-format video generator.
LEADER LV5333 3G-SDI-compatible multi-SDI monitor
Making its first East Coast appearance, the LV5333 is a new multi-SDI monitor designed for use in studios, technical areas or attached to a video camera-support tripod. The LV5333 is compatible with over 20 HD-SDI/SD-SDI signal formats including 3G-SDI. Occupying a 215 x 128 x 63 millimeter housing, the instrument and weighs 1.3 kilograms. It can be powered from battery or a universal mains adapter.
The LV5333s integral 6.5 inch XGA TFT LCD screen can be used to display video signal waveform, vectorscope or the video image. LEADERs CINELITE II, CINELITE ADVANCED, histogram, gamma display, gamut and level error display functions which were optional on the previous model (LV5330) are included as standard on the LV5333. Other features include cable length, external timing display and field frequency deviation display.
User-configurable multi-display combinations allow easy inspection of signal parameters. Full-screen displays can alternatively be selected to allow detailed review of specific elements. Up to 16 channels of embedded audio can be displayed using bar level meters. SDI-embedded audio can be extracted and two user-selectable audio channels sent as AES/EBU to a BNC output; they can also be monitored via the headphone output.
The LV5333 can be set to display YCbCr, YRGB, YGBR, GBR or RGB luminance waveform, colour vector, five-bar, surround-sound level, status or video source. Freeze mode allows comparison of different SDI input signals. Thumbnail picture display can be selected with other multi-display operating modes for easy source identification. Input format, colorimetry, black burst or tri-level external reference input are auto-sensed. Any line of the video signal can selected and displayed in waveform, vector or five-bar representations.
LEADER LV5490 SD/HD/4K waveform monitor
LEADERS LV5490 is a compact handheld test instrument capable of handling an extremely wide range of television standards including SD/HD and 4K. Fully portable, it has a footprint of just 223 wide by 360 millimeters deep and a height of 189 mm.
Equipped with eight input connectors, the LV5490 accepts up to two 4K signals simultaneously. A recently introduced feature is the ability to handle the video signals via two-sample interleave as well as square division. In square-division signal mode, the entire image is split into four quadrants and each quadrant is transmitted in turn as a sub-image. In the case of two-sample-interleave, two consecutive pixels are transmitted at a time. The first pair goes to sub-image 1 and the second pair to sub-image 2. The first pair of the next line then goes to sub-image 3, the first pair of the next line going to sub-image 4, and so on. Each sub-image is transmitted separately to the monitor. This type of two-sample interleave is the approved standard for 4K.
Also new to the LV5490 is Focus Assist, a LEADER innovation that allows easy checking of low-contrast content and fine image detail. Other new capabilities include a CIE 1931 color space chart generator. The LV5490 can show 4K signals in the standards full ITU Recommendation BT.2020 color space.
LV5490 operators can adjust the size of up to four displays on the screen to suit specific tasks. This allows easy magnification and inspection of detail on the instruments 9 inch 1920 x 1080 HD LCD display screen instead of being limited to fixed size quadrants.
LEADER LT4600 3G/HD/SD-SDI test signal generator
The LEADER LT4600 is a multi-format video generator in a compact 1U half-rack size. It operates in (3G-SDI/HD-SDI/SD-SDI) format triple-rate SDI. The LT 4600 can produce test patterns, color bars such as SDI check field, a superimposed logo ID character of QVGA size and safe-area markers. Additional features analog black output for all the three SDI signal formats, plus an 48 kHz AES/EBU embedded digital audio feed synchronized to the video signal. Up to 10 operating configurations can be saved in the internal memory.
