Leighton Buzzard, UK, May 31st, 2023 Custom Consoles announces the completion of a production control desk and monitor display support system for one of Britains longest established free-to-air television and radio broadcasters. The project was performed in partnership with Hampshire-based system integrator Dega Broadcast.
This is the latest in recent series of projects we have been commissioned by Dega Broadcast to work on for this client, says Gary Fuller, Sales Manager at Custom Consoles. The desk is an L-shaped structure based on our Module-R series. Designed for use by a team of up to five operators, it faces a MediaWall of similar width, 6.7 metres, with sufficient space between the two to allow easy access for routine equipment maintenance or reconfiguration. We have supplied many control room furniture solutions to this broadcaster over the years with Module-R and MediaWall especially appreciated for their user-friendly ergonomics, structural robustness and eye-friendly styling. An additional strength of both product ranges is the ease with which they can be modified or expanded to match revisions in workflow during the course of their long working life.
A 13 bay wide unit, the front section is augmented on its left side by a 3.5 metre 90 degree five-bay spur accommodating a production control switcher. The desk incorporates floor-to worktop-height equipment storage and 3U high worktop-rear equipment pods. 24-inch computer monitor displays are mounted along the rear of the main desk section plus additional displays on the spur. The desk is supported by silver-anodised extruded aluminium legs with internal ducts for signal and power cables. Additional support is provided by a corner junction unit.
The MediaWall comprises three horizontal frames spanned by 55-inch video monitors, supplementary 24 inch video monitors and loudspeakers. Total height of the frame is 2.4 metres.
A mix-and-matchable control room furniture system, Custom Consoles Module-R is designed to offer a high level of choice in terms of desk size, configuration and facilities. Auxiliary pods of various sizes for broadcast industry standard 19 inch rack-mounting equipment can be specified at the time of installation or added later. Individual elements such as desktops can be replaced easily if required for operational or aesthetic reasons. Options include single, double or triple width base units, 15, 30, 45 or 90 degree angled corner units, or curved desk sections to follow any specified radius. Control panels of practically any size and depth can be embedded into Module-R desktops at any time. Space is provided for equipment, with easy front and rear access via removable front and rear cover panels. Predrilled monitor mounts are included as standard along the rear of every Module-R frame. Fully IT-friendly, Module-R includes brush-strip-protected slots running the entire width of each desktop allow easy connection of cables to and from devices such as computer keyboards and tracking tools.
MediaWall is a video and audio monitor support frame system providing the same combination of structural rigidity and operational versatility as Module-R. Flat-screen video displays of practically any size can be mounted in almost any configuration. Incorporating height-adjustable horizontal beams and T-slot mounts, MediaWall is fully adjustable to ensure optimal sight lines. Individual or multiple frames can be used in self-supporting mode or coupled directly to the studio wall. Video display screens can be positioned so that the edges meet exactly to form a continuous horizontal display limited only by the monitor panel bezel. Monitor signal and power cables are fully concealed and can enter or leave the structure at any desired point.
