Viu Launch: Watch local shows on new streaming platform [videos]

Viu will partner with ETV and SABC to offer top quality local South African content along with international series. Ryan Solovei, Country Manager Viu SA, explains:

We are excited to be bringing a truly freemium' video streaming service anchored on local content to South Africa. Through our partnerships with Etv, SABC, and Vodacom, we have built an ecosystem that makes it easier for audiences to engage with our platform.

The platform will serve ads with it's offering, and there will be exclusive content available with their premium plan.

Viu brings us affordability Start out with the free trial, and once that has expired, it will cost only R69 per month, or R20 per week. Have commitment issues? That's fine, users can also sign up for R5 per day.

Subscriptions will auto-renew but can be cancelled at any time. Payments can be made using debit or credit cards. Vodacom, a Viu Partner, offers their customers the option to bill the service to an existing Vodacom account.

Premium users will enjoy an ad-free experience and will have access to films and shows not available on the free version. Download the iOS or Android app free of charge. Subscribers will be able to use Viu on up to five devices.

Viu Launch The platform was introduced at a star-studded media event in Hyde Park, Johannesburg on 28 February. South African stand up comic Nina Hastie brought all the laughs, from Amandala to pulling a Trevor Noah Oscars stint.
