At Netflix, we believe more people should see their lives reflected on screen. And whether its Nick coming out to his mom in Heartstopper, or Cals mental health struggles in Sex Education, we know the importance of telling authentic LGBTQ stories and elevating new perspectives and experiences.

In honor of LGBTQ History Month, we recently invited five fans to share their reactions to pivotal scenes from Netflix shows with LGBTQ stories and characters at their heart.

The video highlights how these stories resonate with teenagers, and the power in showing the realities of being a young adult - from experiencing anxiety or depression, to feeling the highs and lows of your first love, to learning more about yourself and finding your community.

"LGBTQ representation in the media is not just entertainment; its a lifeline for LGBTQ young people who may not feel seen or accepted for who they are, said Nova Bright (she/her), Head of Internal Training (Learning & Development) at The Trevor Project. Were so honored to partner with Netflix, which is leading the way in creating LGBTQ-inclusive content that uplifts and celebrates the beautifully diverse lived experiences of the LGBTQ community. In a world that can often feel isolating for LGBTQ young people, this visibility serves as a beacon of hope, giving strength and empowerment to the voices who need it the most."

Heartstopper was recently recognized for its authentic representation and advancing the evolution of LGBTQ stories in entertainment. And after four seasons, Sex Education has had a lasting impact through tackling difficult conversations, in addition to creating opportunities for new voices in front of and behind the camera.

Along with the newly released Everything Now, the Oct. 20 premiere of Elite Season 7 and upcoming seasons of XO, Kitty, Young Royals, and Heartbreak High, we invite you to discover our great lineup of young adult shows that spotlight a wide array of LGBTQ experiences.
