Medway central to news and production acquisition workflows at NAB24

Partnerships with Avid, LiveU, Ross and Sony enable live capture and growing file editing

Marquis is working with new technology partners at NAB 2024, including Sony, Avid, LiveU, EVS and Ross Video, helping streamline news, production and live video acquisition into and out of Avid editing systems to get content to air as quickly as possible. The company has built on its proxy relinking workflow with Sony and Avid -already used by Sinclair to reduce the volume of high-resolution video transferred to news production centres by field journalists - and is working with Ross Video and LiveU to bring similar efficiencies to live production.

Medway is a powerful and scalable workflow software system, integrating multiple incompatible systems, transcoding and rewrapping media and metadata and supporting complex multi-resolution workflows. Initially introduced in 2023, the novel method of news sequence relinking allows field cameras to upload proxy files via the Sony C3 Portal, which are then transferred to Avid MediaCentral or Media Composer, complete with all metadata, for fast proxy editing.

New for NAB 2024 is the introduction of a dedicated panel within Avid Media Composer software, designed to support Sony C3 Portal ingest and proxy relinking. This allows the editor to see directly into the Medway system to select and ingest any new media from the Medway watch folder, removing the need to operate a separate Medway client. There's also a new option within Sony's C3 Portal to transfer a live stream to and from Avid, direct from the camera, which opens many possibilities for live news. Also launching at NAB 2024 is the expansion of the automatic ingest workflow to Sonys collaboration and media management service, Ci Media Cloud , enabling automated ingest from Ci into Avid systems.

Live production workflows can now benefit from the same improvements, thanks to collaborations with both LiveU, Ross Video and EVS. Marquis Medway delivers a seamless media workflow between LiveU sources and Avid editing systems, enabling media and metadata to be moved efficiently via LiveU from acquisition through to production. Video from LiveU field units can be recorded by LiveU Ingest, together with associated metadata and moved with Avid-ready formatting into Avid MediaCentral and Media Composer.

Ross Videos Media I/O ingest, playout and transcode solution has been certified with Marquis Medway middleware. Scaling to the biggest production demands, Media I/O supports almost any video format, can run on-premise, virtualised or in-cloud, integrating seamlessly into the production workflow. The integration with Ross Video enables Medway to transfer and check video into Avid whilst still recording from Media I/O, allowing Avid users to edit growing files. Growing file support is a feature of Avid MediaCentral and Interplay.

Finally, a new partnership with EVS at NAB 2024 enables the export of sequences from Avid to EVS via Medway, allowing playout of growing files from the Avid system.

Marquis will be demonstrating its own core products at NAB 2024 too; including Workspace Tools, which helps protect Avid shared storage work-in-progress; and Project Parking, the industry gold-standard for Avid storage management analytics and project portability. Marquis will also be showing Postflux for Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, which provides project analysis, archive, restore and transfer, helping find referenced media and creating version-controlled project archives for Adobe workflows.

And finally, Marquis has launched its new X2Pro5 software, which has been designed to integrate Final Cut Pro projects into a professional audio workflow, enabling Avid Pro Tools to be used for audio finishing. X2Pro5 features Apple silicon support, 32-bit floating point audio and a redesigned user interface, plus takes advantage of the innovative metadata-based organising features in Final Cut Pro, with expanded role management allowing unlimited numbers of audio roles in Final Cut Pro to be converted into Pro Tools tracks for further audio processing and finishing.
