Best of Show Awarded to NetApp for Flash Innovation NetApp Impresses Judges with Its All-Flash-Array EF-Series While IT Professionals Vote NetApp as 2014 Innovation Leader for All-Flash NAS SSD at 2014 Flash Memory Summit

Customers are increasingly demanding the performance of all-flash arrays to service IT environments for data-intensive applications requiring very low latency along with a high level of resiliency and proven reliability. The NetApp EF-Series is the right technology at the right time to achieve impressive levels of price/performance while addressing new innovative techniques for storage management through a powerful, intuitive interface.
At the 2014 Flash Memory Summit, NetApp, Inc. [NTAP] was honored with two awards for its leadership and customer flash implementation. NetApp was awarded Best of Show Most Innovative Flash Memory Customer Implementation for its EF-Series all-flash-array deployment at Diamond Light Source. NetApp was also selected by IT pros in the annual SSD survey as the Market Leader favorite for All-Flash NAS SSD. NetApp took the lead in the four additional categories of Performance, Reliability, Service, and Support and Innovation.

Best of Show-Most Innovative Flash Memory Customer Implementation
Diamond Light Source is the UK's national synchrotron science facility, generating brilliant beams of light, from infrared to X-rays, to explore the fundamental nature of matter. These powerful blasts of light enable scientists to study the atomic makeup of materials. For instance, beamlines allow researchers to examine the finest details of a protein's structure, examine electrons as they move on the surface of a magnetic storage disk, and more.
Diamond Light Source needed a high-speed data buffer to store data locally that was coming off its beamlines. Diamond chose two NetApp EF540 flash arrays with 12x 800GB SSD, designed for performance-driven applications with submillisecond-latency requirements. NetApp Star Partner Q Associates worked in close partnership with NetApp at Diamond Light Source.
NetApp EF-Series provided the high-speed IOPS the customer was looking for. It is amazingly quick for the price point and very competitive for the performance and feature set, said Nigel Horsell, chief storage architect at Q Associates. Compared to alternatives, it was quick to implement and provides a storage solution well suited to this requirement. Additionally, it is very easy to scale the EF-Series to meet growing storage demands. It's a simple process, and the customer can easily add more storage capacity as they need it.
Voted 2014 Innovation Leader for All-Flash NAS
In a June 2014 IT Brand Pulse SSD brand leader survey, NetApp was selected by IT pros as the leader in the 2014 All-Flash NAS category. IT pro respondents were asked who they perceived to be the market, price, performance, reliability, service and support, and innovation leader in 14 product categories. They were also asked three bonus questions about who contributed most to SSD innovation during the last five years (2009-2014).
The IT Brand Pulse awards reflect the judgment of major customers and key IT personnel at important data centers. They are the only awards based on the experience of those who actually buy and use the products, said Lance Leventhal, program chairperson, Flash Memory Summit. Monthly surveys assure that the responses are recent and up to date. Receiving an IT Brand Pulse award shows that a company is doing the job where it really counts-in the field!
