Neyrinck breathe new life into legacy control surfaces

Neyrincks V-Control Pro v2.3 adds Pro Control and Control 24 support, allowing both control surfaces to be used once again with Pro Tools - and also other DAWs with which neither was originally compatible.

Back at the start of the Millennium, and long before the companys name-switch to Avid, Digidesigns top-of-the-range, modular ProControl and the slightly more affordable, non-modular Control 24 were the companys first two own-brand control surfaces for Pro Tools. (ProControl was reviewed in SOS May 1999, Control24 in SOS March 2001). Although Avid support officially ended in 2009 for ProControl, and in 2012 for Control 24, both control surfaces remained in widespread use until the upgrade to 64-bit operation in 2013, with Pro Tools 11, made it impossible for them to be used with any further current versions of the software. Even so, many determined users continued, staying at Pro Tools 10 and spurning upgrades, but it has become ever harder to do so and keep recording facilities compatible with newer hardware and software.

Now software developers Neyrinck, makers of V-Control Pro, the cross-platform media control surface app, have found a solution. The latest v2.3 update to V-Control Pro not only allows Control 24 and ProControl (well, surfaces of up to 32 channels, anyway) to be used with Pro Tools 11, 12, 2018 and 2019... but it also allows both to control Steinberg Cubase and Nuendo, and Apple Logic Pro X, which was never previously possible. Sounds like a win to us - at a stroke, very capable but hitherto compromised old hardware gets a new lease of life!

A limited-feature free trial version of the software is available for download now at Neyrincks site. An annual licence to use the software costs $49.99, and a full permanent licence is $199. Company founder Paul Neyrinck is apparently working on similarly enhanced DAW support for other control surfaces.
