Faith Mazibuko issues apology after combi court rant

Faith Mazibuko, after looking back at how she behaved in a recent departmental meeting, has issued an apology to the staff members she disrespected.

The Gauteng MEC for sports and recreations was captured on audio dishing out racially-charged slurs at the chief financial officer (CFO) and the Head of the Department (HOD) after they'd questioned her insistence on greenlighting the launch of combi courts'.

As it turns out, the MEC was referring to the launch of facilities that can be used for a variety of sports activities.

The two women in the meeting remained adamant on the fact that if the budget allowed - and was within the boundaries of the law - they would push for the combi courts.

This was a plea that Mazibuko did not want to hear. She went on to taunt the staffers on how lucky they were to be working in a sphere of government that apparently did not accept Indians and whites.

She also threatened to remove them from their position if they had returned without the combi courts.

Gauteng Premier to decide on Mazibuko's fate Although the MEC's spokesperson, Nomazwe Ntlokwana, revealed that the audio had been taken out of context and that, in fact, the MEC was pushing for service delivery targets to be met, she failed to explain why Mazibuko was so adamant about these combi courts.

In her own words, Mazibuko warmed that these facilities were critical in ensuring that the African National Congress (ANC) gains an advantage in the upcoming elections.

In her apology, the MEC revealed that the incident had occurred on 15 February. She noted that she was an advocate of women empowerment and that she was sorry for her behaviour.

Premier David Makhura revealed that he would make a final decision on an appropriate course of action to take against Mazibuko by the end of Thursday.
