Archive Operators Cut Cataloguing Time by 75% with NOA's New Metadata Finder 26 January 2015

Archive operators in Sweden will substantially accelerate ingest workflows with NOA's next release of Metadata Finder (MDF). MDF was initially developed as a tool for VRT in Belgium and its new features will help to catalogue ingested media up to four times faster.
NOA worked with Sweden's SRF (Sveriges Radio F rvaltnings) to reduce the time spent indexing material with the increasingly sophisticated metadata required for long-term archival value. Originally developed to increase the efficiency of digitisation from CD, Metadata Finder's technology will be enhanced to request data from online resources and with existing metadata repositories. By interrogating sources such as freedb and MusicBrainz, MDF efficiently presents established metadata choices to the ingest cataloguer, and improves the archived content's semantic linking.
Month by month it becomes more important to annotate archived content intellectually and semantically so that it can be found and accessed easily by anyone, said Christophe Kummer, CEO of NOA. In the long run only well-granulated metadata will allow archival repositories to meet the convergence challenges.
MDF is available as part of NOA's suite of archival ingest tools and will be delivered as upgrade to clients who already make use of the tool.
