Manhattan Edit Workshop (MEWShop), the cutting-edge authorized digital training destination for post-production and content creators, has just announced new dates for DaVinci Resolve workshops, which will be taught by Warren Eagles, professional color grader and co-founder of the International Colorist Academy (ICA). Touted as the color grading system of choice for many of Hollywood's blockbuster production studios, DaVinci Resolve 10 was announced earlier this year to much excitement over its expanded set of editing functionalities among many other upgrades.
One of the first training facilities to offer classes for Resolve 10*, which is scheduled to launch this fall, MEWShop will provide workshops for both beginners and those with a bit more experience. In ICA 101: An Introduction to Colorist Strategies with DaVinci Resolve, students will learn the basics of the system. For those who wish to expand upon this foundation, there is ICA 201: Resolve Workflow. The workshops round out with Warrens Looks with Resolve, a general class in which students will gain insight as to how famous looks and styles are created.
ICA 101: An Introduction to Colorist Strategies with DaVinci Resolve
A great introduction to Resolve software for the Mac, this class is ideal for first time users with little to no Resolve experience. This class mixes the operational side of Resolve with some practical real world training on workflows, basic color theory, grading approaches and techniques. Among many other topics, students will learn:
A complete demo of the system, looking at every area of the new software and how it works with the control surface
Basic color theory: looking at the waveform, vectorscope, and histogram as well as how different colors interact with increased saturation/contrast; why some colors complement each other more than others
Using the pan, tilt, zoom and rotate controls to explore how far you can zoom in on a film or digital image; Keyframing in the timeline and auto tracking
Resolve workflows including Film, Red, Canon, Arri Alexa, Sony F3 and other digital files
How to create looks and styles within Resolve to get a project started, including orange and teal, cross process, bleach bypass, Schindler's red coat, duotones, and day for night
Friday, August 30 - Sunday, September 1 from 10am - 6pm each day
Cost: $1,495
ICA 201: Resolve Workflow
This class is designed around a small, conformed sequence that students can take away. Eagles will work through the project from start to finish with students, looking not only at Resolve, but also using general colorist strategies. Students will be able to keep the project and stills. Among many other topics, students will learn:
Starting with dailies, grade a look for editing from the RAW camera files
Rendering ProRes or DNxHD for offline editing, H264 for the web
Bring in audio .wav then compare the conform with the offline reference movie
Conform vs. Bake - what are the pros and cons of each workflow?
Primary grading - three-way color corrector, Curves and LOG grading
Look creation: how to preview a look through the whole timeline using the split screen mode
Tuesday, September 3 - Wednesday, September 4 from 10am - 6pm each day
Cost: $1,095
Warrens Looks with Resolve
This general one-day workshop is open to all and will give students great insight into how famous looks and styles are created. Attendees will learn how to create traditional Looks, but will also work on how to make new Looks to suit unique workflows, even without million dollar budgets. Students are encouraged to bring their own footage. Among others, students will learn the following looks:
Bleach Bypass
Duotones
Technicolor two-strip
Cross process
Natural Color vs. Color Washes
Day for Night
Classic Black and White
Orange and Teal
Huge grads
Spot Color
Thursday, September 5 from 10am - 6pm
Cost: $549
*MEWshop will be training students with an Alpha version of DaVinci Resolve 10.

Whats New In DaVinci Resolve?
DaVinci Resolve features a completely redesigned user interface thats designed to enable a more efficient workflow, eliminating unnecessary clicks and settings. A job can be up and running in three clicks: one to log in, one to drop media into the project and one to start grading. DaVinci Resolve includes plenty of incredible features like a new streamlined project import, export and selection workflow.
Color graders get scrubbable media thumbnails to speed up shot selection, production metadata fields for entering on set shot notes, and larger color control palettes to give faster access to grading tools. There are also new clear graphical palettes for control of power windows, keys, sizing, tracking and stabilization, camera raw and data burn-ins.
