Rocketman: South African release date, cast, trailer and more

Kingsman star, Taron Egerton is ready to rock in the new film, Rocketman where he will portray Sir Elton John.

According to DigitalSpy, Rocketman is set to take elements from John's life, though Egerton has clarified that it is not a biopic (despite it charting his rise to stardom and recovery from drug and alcohol addiction).

The film will tell the story of Elton John's emergence as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music, before transforming into a pop superstar, as well as his partnership with songwriter Bernie Taupin.

We are making a movie called Rocketman about Elton John's formative years. Everyone thinks it's a biopic. It isn't, said Egerton.

It's a fantasy musical so it's actually his songs used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments. He's not the only character that sings. It's going to be fun.

Rocketman: Cast The films stars Jamie Bell as Elton John's long-standing music writing partner Bernie Taupin, Gemma Jones, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Richard Madden. The film was penned by Lee Hall (who also wrote Billy Elliot) and directed by Dexter Fletcher.
