Unfounded corruption allegations against TeliaSonera

12 December 2012 The corruption allegations directed at TeliaSonera are unfounded. The claims that the allocation of frequencies and licenses in Uzbekistan were not handled in a correct manner by the authorities are wrong. Today the Stockholm District Court dismissed the public prosecutors request for a supplementary embargo of SEK 1.8 billion tied to bribery. Furthermore, we have received confirmation from the Uzbek authorities that the allocation of frequencies and licenses has been handled correctly. We have provided the public prosecutor Gunnar Stetler and Mannheimer Swartling law firm with this information today.

Two investigations have been ongoing for some time regarding TeliaSoneras investments in Uzbekistan. Director of Public Prosecution Gunnar Stetler has initiated a preliminary investigation, and we are providing all the required information to the investigation. Under the supervision of lawyer Birn Riese, Mannheimer Swartling law firm is conducting an independent investigation initiated by TeliaSonera. Two of TeliaSoneras employees have been heard, as representatives of the company, and served with indictments in conjunction with the preliminary investigation. Both the individuals and the company deny the allegations.

A thorough investigation of the companys investments in Uzbekistan is of utmost importance to TeliaSonera and, until this has been concluded, the companys management and employees have to live with unfounded allegations.

TeliaSonera has described its investments in Uzbekistan in detail to the public prosecutor and the police, as well as to Mannheimer Swartling, including, for example, the negotiations that have taken place, who has been involved and which agreements have been signed. TeliaSoneras management is convinced that the continued legal procedures will confirm that the corruption allegations are unfounded. Nothing in the information that has emerged thus far changes this assessment.
