The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) Call for Public Screening funding applications for Cycle 1, 2026/27 financial year is Open

The NFVF, an agency of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, has released the call for Public Screening funding applications for Cycle 1, 2026/27 financial year for screenings taking place from 01 November 2026 to 28 February 2027.

Opening date for submissions: 20 July 2026

Closing date for submissions: 17 August 2026 at 17h00

The Public Screening Funding is available to individuals, companies, and organisations seeking to host public screening events that showcase South African films. Screenings may be presented in indoor or outdoor venues, including theatres, parks, community centres, and drive-in venues, and may be delivered through a mobile cinema-style setup where appropriate. The programme aims to increase public access to South African films while promoting audience development and appreciation of local content.

To enhance audience engagement, screenings may be accompanied by discussions, question-and-answer (Q&A) sessions, panel discussions, or presentations. For funding purposes, the screening of a single South African film constitutes one screening, regardless of the number of films screened during the same day or evening.

Ensure that you click the submit button and receive the confirmation email for your application submission from the system, If the confirmation email is not received, it means that application did not go through. This should be communicated with the NFVF within the submission period, unfortunately the NFVF will not assist with this query after the closing date of the call.

Eligibility: Public Screening

Tier 2 Intermediate public screening hosts that have hosted public screening events for more

than five years and fewer than ten years.

Tier 3 Emerging public screening hosts that have hosted public screening events

for fewer than five years.

Documentation and Information Required:

A synopsis outlining the objective of the public screening and its uniqueness;

A project outline and timeline;

A one- to two-page letter of motivation;

A detailed public screening plan and programme including a proposed screening

schedule;

A detailed public screening budget;

The names of the companies that the applicant has approached for funding

and the amount of funds committed;

A Film and Publication Board certificate (required at contracting stage);

A detailed report on previous public screenings which include a screening schedule

and a verifiable attendance register listing the total number of people attending the

screening of each film and the overall impact of the event (where applicable);

A company registration document;

An updated CV of the applicant;

A certified copy of the applicant's South African identity document (certified within six

months of the date of application) or valid permit or proof of permanent resident

status;

Tax Compliance PIN document;

A valid BBBEE Certificate or the BBBEE Affidavit, signed by a Commissioner of

Oaths;

The most recent audited company financial statements (valid for 1 year);

A bank account confirmation letter (dated within three months of the date of

application) for an account that is ring-fenced i.e., dedicated to public screening

film festival business only;

A company profile including a detailed CV and profile of the screening host and

his/her executive team;

Details of the skills transfer for screening employees indicating the reoccurring and

upskilled staff from the preceding year and demonstrating the growth and/or

progression of staff (where applicable); and

A certificate from the Film and Publication Board (required when contracting).
