SABC commemorates June 16th --

SABC will commemorate the 39th anniversary of the Soweto Uprising now known as June 16, National Youth Day. The uprisings tragically ended with hundreds of young people killed by the apartheid government when they protested against the imposition of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction.
June 16th events will take place across the country under the theme Take The Next Step . SABC platforms will galvanise support for the SABC s Walk For Freedom commemorative march set to take place in Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Gauteng.

Metro FM Walkfor Freedom from Morris Isaacson High School , Mphuthi Street to Phefeni Senior Secondary School, Vilakazi Street, Soweto (08h00 12h00)
15h00 - 22h00 Metro FM and SABC3 Youth Day Sundowners, Thrive Caf , Vilakazi Street, Soweto.
5FM will celebrate the Youth Day in Phefeni High School, Vilakazi Street Soweto (11h00 to 15h00)
Monday, 15 June 2015, SABC 1, Ligwalagwala FM and Ikwekwezi will hold a Youth Workshop at Kwanyamazane Civic Centre to empower the youth of Mpumalanga through an engaging and informative workshop that covers entrepreneurship and the business of the arts.
The SABC Walk for Freedom in Mpumalanga 16 June 2015, Youth Walk, Venue: Kabokweni Stadium (the Lowveld Massacre). Route: From Sifunindlela Kabokweni Stadium (Time of Walk: 06h30 08h30)
SABC1, Ligwalagwala FM and Ikwekwezi FM will host a music concert at Kabokweni Stadium, Mpumalnaga after the commemorative walk. The concert will see top South African artists, DJ s and SABC Talent, including DJ s Kwesta, Heavy K, Bricks, Spectacular, Naves and many more.
The Limpopo leg of the SABC Walk For Freedom will take place from Peter Mokaba Alma Mater school, to the university of Limpopo stadium.
Only winners from the on-air competitions will be invited to the event and SABC marquee. SABC1 will also boast a video recording booth at the event, whilst various SABC1 programmes will be covering the event.
Viewers and listeners can look out for the competition promo currently running on SABC1 and the participating SABC Radio Stations, Ligwalagwala FM and Ikwekwezi FM.
SABC is committed to inform, educate and celebrate the country s youth. The SABC remembers June 16th, as it looks towards a better future for all.
