The book recounts the life of the legendary creator, Christian Dior, who, as a child, drew inspiration from the flowers of the family home in Granville, and as an adult, became a master of feminine elegance.

It also recounts the saga of an internationally renowned fashion house, which was established on 16 December 1946 and thrust into the limelight on 12 February 1947, with the first Dior fashion show on Avenue Montaigne.

The creations of Christian Dior, his "flower-women" and "long-stemmed" elegance, are an ode to poetry. Womens bodies were moulded "to create a stylized curve" and the "figure 8" line became a prominent fixture among his fashion designs and perfumes. From then on, women had outfits and shoes for each hour of the day, with matching bag, hat and jewellery...; each accessory had its importance and none was forgotten.

This book is the story of a man, a genius and a great talent who was the creator of l gance la fran aise. Everything he created or touched was an immediate success: his lipstick, which for him was "womens primary weapon of seduction", became ROUGE DIOR; in 1955, his lingerie offered another vision of the female body with high breasts and ample cleavage, his perfumes, EAU SAUVAGE in 1966, POISON in 1985, and JADORE in 1999, have become absolute musts! His accessories, such as the LADY DIOR handbag, are exceptional pieces.

Christian Dior dressed European royalty, the wives of heads of State and was the couturier of choice for all exceptional occasions. This "dream merchant" delighted in giving each of his creations endearing names, such as Ch rie, Tendresse, etc., feeling that his dresses represented magical, eternal moments in the course of womens lives.

At the death of Christian Dior in 1957, his first assistant Yves Mathieu Saint-Laurent took over the reins of the fashion house and ensured its continued renown with his clean, balanced, geometric designs. The New Look of the post-war period gave way to the "Total Look" of the 1980s. Marc Bohan, Hedi Slimane, John Galliano, Raf Simons and Kris Van Assche, among others, became the artistic directors of the womens and mens collections with imagination and talent as the constant common denominator.

This book convincingly demonstrates that the success, talent and renown of the Christian Dior fashion house depend on the ultimate in luxury: the choice of EXCELLENCE.

Above all, Christian Dior represented the realization of the dream of the eternal feminine, the idea that beauty must be respected, savoured and contemplated.
