Sky Academy Arts Scholarships are back, offering funding and mentoring to five talented artists aged 18-30 from the UK and Ireland. Run in partnership with Hiive, the aim of the scholarships is to give young people the time, space and money they need to develop their creative practice and unlock their potential. The scholarships are part of Sky Academy, a set of five initiatives that will help 1 million young people unlock their potential by 2020, using the power of TV, creativity and sport to build practical skills and experience.
Each artist will receive £30,000/ 40,000 towards the development of an artistic project and the cost of living for one year, along with mentoring from senior Sky staff and professionals from the arts industry. In addition, the artists will receive a short film about their project and practice, and wider developmental support from Sky and Hiive. Four scholarships will be awarded to artists from the UK and one scholarship will be awarded to an artist living in Ireland.
Now in their fifth year, Sky Academy Arts Scholarships have supported 20 brilliant young artists from a range of artistic disciplines, from jazz drummers and dancers, to shadow puppeteers. The scholarship support allows our Artists to develop new projects, which have included solo visual art exhibitions and an award winning play at the Edinburgh Fringe festival, the creation of a new music charity that puts on classical music concerts in unexpected places and a theatre company that tells stories without boundaries.
To apply, artists will need to be a member of Hiive and submit an idea for an artistic project under one of the following six categories: Visual Art, Theatre and Comedy, Music, Dance, Film Production and Creative Producing. Applications can be either written or filmed, so it's easy to apply - simply visit the applications page for more information.
