COMCAST, TIME WARNER, LIBERTY GLOBAL TO PROVIDE UPDATES ON RDK AT OCT. 21 SPECIAL SESSION AT SCTE CABLE-TEC EXPO 2013

OCT. 8, 2013 (Exton, PA) An all-star cast of technology experts from the leading direct video service providers in the world will discuss the latest developments in cable's Reference Design Kit (RDK) venture on Monday, Oct. 21 at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013 in Atlanta.

The session, entitled "All Things RDK," will address details, progress and the roadmap of the RDK program. Among the topics to be discussed will be the fundamental principles of RDK; steps to deployment; lessons learned from initial RDK work; and the potential of RDK to support a variety of use cases. The 75-minute session is slated to begin at 2:45 p.m.

Panelists include:

Steve Heeb, president and general manager, RDK Management, LLC;

Steve Reynolds, senior vice president, premises technology, Comcast;

Bill Warga, vice president, technology, Liberty Global; and

Matthew Zalesko, senior vice president/technology, Time Warner Cable.

Leslie Ellis, technology columnist for Multichannel News and president of Ellis Edits, will moderate the session.

The Reference Design Kit (RDK) is a pre-integrated software bundle developed and licensed to create a common framework for powering IP or hybrid set-top boxes (STBs) and gateway devices for CE manufacturers, SoC vendors, and other software developers, system integrators and TV service providers. The RDK was developed to accelerate the deployment of next-generation video services and prevent software fragmentation by providing speed-to-market, collaboration and standardization. Supported by more than 100 licensees, RDK Management, LLC was formed as a joint venture between Comcast Cable and Time Warner Cable to administer the RDK. SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013 is set for Monday through Thursday, Oct. 21-24. Two pre-conference symposia, one called "DOCSIS 3.1 Engineering" and another entitled "Creating the Cable Generalist," will be held on Monday, Oct. 21. Pat Esser, president of Cox Communications, will moderate a C-Suite panel featuring Dave Watson, executive vice president and CEO of Comcast, and Bob Stanzione, chairman and CEO of ARRIS; and John Schanz, chief network officer and executive vice president of Comcast, will moderate a network operations panel featuring: Yvette Kanouff, executive vice president, corporate engineering and technology, Cablevision Systems Corporation; Guy McCormick, vice president, engineering, Cox Communications; Matthew Stanek, senior vice president of core, regional, metro and network operations, Time Warner Cable; and Marwan Fawaz, partner with Sarepta Advisors.
